2024 Vince Carter Youth Basketball Academy
Each summer I have to pinch myself on the first day of my Vince Carter Youth Basketball Academy and this year was no different.
The VCYBA will always be a humbling experience for me because it seems like yesterday I was at the age of these campers simply playing with a basketball not knowing the impact it would have on my life and so many others. At 7 years old, I began to be serious about improving my basketball skills. That dedication helped me to excel on the court in high school and get a college scholarship. Of course, I had to get good grades in school, too. In college and throughout the 22 years of my NBA career, I continued to work on and improve areas of my game. I believe that dedication has landed me a spot in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Even though I have embarked on a new career in broadcasting, I enjoy and will continue teaching and helping youngsters to become better ballers, students, and leaders.
As I’ve traveled across the world, I’ve noticed how much the game of basketball has grown. Look at what is happening in women’s college basketball and the WNBA! It is exploding! This year, VCYBA had more female ballers than ever before!
I’m a firm believer that, through sports, we are able to break down barriers that have limited the growth of humanity. I once read an article that stated, “Children who play together can learn to live together.” They also learn how to work together for the greater good on and off the court. This year, I welcomed basketball campers from Mississippi, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Arkansas, and throughout Florida. These ballers were put to the test from day one and made many positive strides.
Well that’s a wrap for VCYBA 2024 and I’m already looking forward to seeing you next summer.
Don’t forget… make sure to invite a friend!
I wish everyone a successful year and remember to cheer for whomever is your favorite NBA team!
