Q:

I just entered my freshman season in college.  Basketball is my life… but the last few years I have been injury prone (to say the least). In high school I could play injured most of the time and it wasn’t a big deal, but in college I’m not allowed, and probably wouldn’t be able to have the same impact.  I am starting to get extremely frustrated because I am not able to play.  Over the last few years it seems like you have handled your injuries in a positive way, but it is becoming very hard for me to do that anymore… do you have any advice on what you did/ what I could do to help keep a positive attitude while I am rehabbing?

 Audrey from Malibu

A:

Audrey . . . don’t get frustrated.  Injuries are a part of sports.  If you weren’t playing, you probably wouldn’t get injured.  You have to keep a positive attitude.  Here are a couple of suggestions.  Make sure you are completely healed before you start back playing after an injury.  Also, make sure you are putting in the work during the off-season.  You may need to step up your training to get yourself in best physical shape.

Hello Vince.  Greetings from the city of Toronto!  I am still a big fan of yours and hope things are going well. Anyways, what things do you do to make sure you get through a long NBA season?  You have logged a ton of minutes (and miles) on your body throughout your playing career (high school, college, NBA, Olympics, etc) so far and are you concerned that all the pounding you have taken in your career will take its toll at some point in the season or down the road in future seasons?

Thanks!  Good luck this season.  Take care.

Michael from Toronto

A:

Michael you have a great point.  I am loyal to my training during the off-season.  During the season, I do light weightlifting.  I do enjoy my life, but I don’t over-do-it on the social front.  Hopefully, doing these things now will allow me to have a good quality of life, as I get older.

Q:

What do you like better:  offense or defense?  Who are your favorite NBA players?  When did you start playing?

Brett from Upper Saddle River, New Jersey

A:  Hi Brett.  Since “defense” wins championships, I will have to say that I like defense more than offense. There are a few players who are in and have been in the League that I like.  Of course, Dr. J is at the top of the list.  I also admire Shaq, Antawn Jamison, Muggsy Bogues, and Dell Curry.  I threw in some “old school” names so you can do some research.  (lol)  I have had a basketball in my hands from the time I could sit up as a baby.  I started playing organized basketball at the age of 7.
