Vince Answers Emails

Q:

My son Noah is really only 6 years old, but I’d have to say that Vince Carter is his idol.  We found this website and he is wanting to ask Vince.   Who is your hero?

He loves to play basketball I think since he could walk. He plays in an Upward basketball program at our church and always wants to be number 15.  He loves to wear his Carter jersey and it will soon need to be replaced from over wearing. Smile.  As a single parent, it is nice for me to see that my son looks up to a positive role model.  Thank you.   With best regards, Noah’s Mom, Valerie

Noah from Kent Washington

A:

Hi Noah.  Growing up, my hero was Dr. J (Julius Erving). He was someone I looked up to and wanted to be like on and off the court.

Q:

Hey Vince. I’m starting college next week and I wanted to know what was your favorite part about college, besides basketball of course.

Iman from East Orange, NJ

A:

Iman, I would have to say the thing I liked best about going to college was learning how to survive on my own.  College prepares you for the real world.  So I say to you, take advantage of every moment.

Q:

Hey Vince I have 3 questions.

1.Do you like that the Nets are under the radar? Do you think that puts less pressure on the team because you can obviously play with any team in the league but most “experts” don’t talk about the Nets.

2.Have you ever thought about going for a scoring title? Some people call those goals selfish but if a player does it without forcing shots it helps the team like Shaq’s scoring title in 2000 or Jordan’s scoring titles in pretty much every year!

3.How have you kept your athleticism and level of play so high through the injuries and years?

Good luck to you and the Nets I am a big fan of the Nets and you as a player and I hope to see you bring a title to the Nets.

Matt from East Hampton, New York

A:

Well Matt, I don’t mind being under the radar.  It gives your team a chance to position itself for the Playoffs.  I have never considered vying for the NBA scoring title, but it would be nice to have.  With that, I would never seek an individual accomplishment that would not also be great for my team.  I keep my athleticism and level of play at a high level by conditioning, getting as much rest as possible and trying to eat right.  As you get older, you have to work harder to keep up and maintain your abilities.  I put the work in to stay competitive with the young guys.
