2013 VINCE CARTER CHARITY GALA
Vince Carter’s Embassy of Hope Foundation hosted its 16th annual charity gala presented by Halifax Health on August 17 at the Ocean Center Daytona in Daytona Beach. Participants enjoyed the fundraising event by dancing to the sounds of the band MPiRE, sampling delicious hors d’oeuvres, and enthusiastically biding on a wide array of both silent and live auction items.
“Once again, the gala was a huge success,” said Carter, a former NBA All-Star and member of the Dallas Mavericks. “It’s an opportunity for people to come together, enjoy themselves and help us to raise money for local programs.”
Dr. Edison O. Jackson, Bethune-Cookman University president, and Mr. Charlie Lydecker, Brown & Brown, Inc. retail division president, two local leaders, were honored for their outstanding community leadership and presented with a framed Vince Carter autographed Dallas Mavericks jersey. This year’s Embassy of Hope Foundation scholarship winners were also recognized during the program.
Proceeds from the gala will benefit children and family programs and the Embassy of Hope “Believing in Your Dreams” Scholarship Fund. Since its inception in 1998, the Embassy of Hope Foundation has donated funds to more than 200 local programs.
